How to Get Back on Track After the Holidays

I’ve just returned from a whole month in Italy with my family – and it was exactly what I needed. For me, August has always been a recharge month: sunshine, sea, slow mornings, and plenty of memories made with my children and my family of origin. It felt good to step away from social media, switch off from work, and simply live in the moment.

During this time, I didn’t worry too much about what I was eating or drinking (in moderation, of course), and I pressed pause on structured training. The only movement I kept was a short 30-minute Pilates flow in the morning. More than for the physical benefits, it was about mental clarity and balance – a way to centre myself before the day unfolded.

Now that I’m back home in the UK, it’s time to gently reset. If, like me, you’re looking to get back into a healthy routine after the holidays, here are my tips:

1. Plan your meals

Get inspired by your summer travels and bring that flavour into your everyday cooking. Think of light, nourishing meals like paella, Greek salad, or fresh fish dishes. Make a grocery list and stock up on the ingredients you need – planning ahead makes all the difference.

2. Prioritise walking

If you paused your workouts over the summer, start simple. Regular walks can have a huge impact on your energy and mood. Take advantage of the longer, warmer days to fit in your steps. It’s the easiest way to ease yourself back into movement.

3. Choose short sessions

You don’t need to jump back into long or intense workouts straight away. Commit to shorter sessions of your favourite activity – Pilates, gym, or anything you enjoy – and ideally schedule it first thing in the morning. That way it’s done, and it sets a positive tone for your day.

4. Try something new

Sometimes we need a little spark of novelty to find our motivation again. Experiment with a new class, program, or activity. If you’re local to Market Harborough, I’d love for you to join my new Pilates classes starting Saturday, 6th September! You can book your free trial session in the booking section selecting the "Free trial" package.
